Type:
Much of the wood I use in my furniture I milled on my land, in the early 90s in Oregon. It dried for the first five years in the shady, damp woods of Oregon which is good for the grain to relax slowly. I brought it here to New Mexico in the late 90s. It’s very dry and stable.
My shop is much smaller than the one I had in Philadelphia, but has all the necessary equipment to do the type of woodworking I like.
The Dixon Studio tour here in my community is where I sell most of my wood products which includes natural edge tables, benches, stools and cutting/serving boards.

About the ArtistYour Tour Guide
Robert A. Stout
Furniture making was my first career, much inspired by George Nakashima. After nine years with a shop in Philadelphia. I’m married and moved to the mountains of Oregon. With virtually no commissions to make furniture, I cut firewood for a living, which was great my dog, an old truck, and the mountains. A couple years later I entered architecture school in Eugene and have been designing solar homes since. Now that I’m mostly retired, I’ve returned to making furniture.
