Studio in the home I live in with my wife and two teenage boys. My studio is a maleable thing within the walls of our living space, as in ti is always shrinking, expanding, morphing, changing rooms and floors in the house, based on whatever is going on with projects, guests, knocking down a wall or putting one up, etc.

If your work speaks for itself, don’t interrupt.

That could be it, but I do have some words to go with these pictures.
I paint because it takes me somewhere. It can bring about many unexpected surprises, even when I’m the one controlling the brush. As with any creative process, in addition to the delights, discoveries, and ah ha moments, it comes with its own challenges, frustrations and questioning. But that’s part of the journey, the growth, and the evolution of my practice.
Painting is a release, an escape, a figuring out, a trying and failing and trying again and sometimes getting it right. It’s a way to put some of my energy into something that I can show to others, that they might find something worthwhile in it. My journey will always be mine, but the end product is something the viewers and I can share. It’s like a doorway I create that can be passed through, if one chooses.
Part of my process in painting is figuring out what my process is. My work is a mystery to me. And that’s ok. I’ll work at a painting over the course of hours, days, or sometimes weeks (on and off), then stand back and look at it. I’ll take a break and walk away from it. When I come back and look, maybe I’m finished. Or maybe I come back and fuss with it, or totally change it, sometimes making something I hadn’t planned. And then I am brought to the next portal.
I paint over old things that were “done” but after sitting with them for a while, just decide I can do something that feels better, fresher, and more in line with my current head space as it relates to making paintings.
Take a look, spend a while, pass through a “doorway” if you choose.
