An alchemy exists when pigment meets canvas, fabric, or paper. I respond to the varying calls of the human condition and of the land on which we exist. My work contains a vigor that exemplifies the verve and emotions of the human condition, but it also contains the grace and gentle voice of the hills, waters, and flora that permeate our landscape.

Using line, shape, color, texture, and motion, the work reveals the impact of my experiences. Seeing and feeling the chaos of my world both external and within, my practice brings order and calm to the frenzy within me. The landscape, rendered to restore beauty and peace, brings the same calm for my spirit. Active, gestural brush strokes bring the energy into form while meditative drawing brings the terrain of the earth into being. The act of creating allows for comfort, catharsis, and restoration similar to the comfort brought by spiritual traditions.

Materials of paint, canvas, burlap, and graphite are used as I begin with a moment of prayer and meditation. The first stroke is made, spontaneous and intuitive. Calculations are made as the work progresses either responding to the marks made or bringing images to life. The ebb and flow of movement, silence, action, and faith are all working together to form the work. I express the stories of both humanity and of the earth. The transformation of the blank canvas or paper into the image becomes a ritual, a prayer, an offering, and a sacred space.
