My name is Judy Campbell and I am a non-objective abstract artist. The main reason I paint in an abstract manner is to eliminate specific subject matter. That way I am able to concentrate on texture, color, and design elements. I begin with collage of various textures covering the canvas which gives me an intriguing base on which to build. I collage without a plan – I just adhere found “stuff” to my canvas (or panel). For me building my piece randomly gives my work an energy and spontaneity it would not have if it was planned out. In my Artist Statement I always state that my paintings come to the end on their own. I look at the piece and I know that it is finished.

Judy Campbell
My journey as an artist is one of change and experimentation. My acrylic paintings were done while working on my BFA at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I was strongly influenced by artists such as Rauschenberg, de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Larry Rivers and others.
After graduating from college I moved to Colorado. I have been living here for years, raising my daughters, working various jobs and creating my paintings. My work is always evolving and changing - new ideas and influences. My current gallery representation is Space Gallery in Denver and Sopa Fine Arts in Kelowna, Canada.
Still very happy working in my studio...
