Raised in the stunning Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, I am a true mountain girl. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Fine Art, I relocated to the more dramatic Rocky Mountains I had visited as a child. I've lived in the Boulder area for over 30 years, and in 2020 decided to make a major life change and pursue a career in art.

As someone who suffers from depression, I realized I had been denying myself the simplest medicine available, honoring my nature and immersing myself in creative activities. A long time friend and mentor invited me to a painting workshop she was teaching in France, and that trip triggered an epiphany that has changed my life - that it was entirely my choice how I occupied my days, and that it was crucial to my holistic health that I nurture my long-neglected creative soul.

Thus Megan Gael McCarthy Art came to be on January 1, 2020. I’ve found peace and joy, accomplishment and success, and a far better understanding of what is not just important, but essential in my life.
