As the designer and creator of Tulku— a mystically inspired jewelry line that I started in 2005 in Kathmandu, Nepal— I draw on my background as a sculptor, painter, meditator, healer and lover of the natural world for my inspiration. Over the past 20 years I have developed a deep relationship with the people of Nepal and travel regularly to Kathmandu where I work with Newar master craftsmen to broaden my knowledge and connection with one of the main sources of my inspiration. These amulets are intended not only as adornment, but as instruments of healing created to bring support to others. As part of the ancient lineage of artists whose path in Life is to create sacred objects and share them with the world, my intention with Tulku is to work with other such artists to provide people with sacred art to wear and in so doing, to help others on their healing journey.
The oracle deck I am in the process of creating now is inspired by the symbols, archetypes and totems the Tulku amulets represent. This is an exciting journey that also stretches me in many newer ways—particularly in striving to weave what these images mean to me into a tapestry of words, in the form of an oracle.
As a Plant Spirit Medicine healer, I bring healing and support to others with the help of the plants. Plant Spirit Medicine is a form of spiritual healing which combines the traditions of ancient Chinese Five Element medicine and the indigenous shamanic practice of calling on the spirits of plants for healing. It has its roots in ancestral traditions, and though it has been largely forgotten in our society, it has been practiced in one form or another by medicine people around the world throughout time. Part of my journey in deepening this medicine has been through a committed and intensive shamanic pilgrimage path in the Huichol indigenous tradition of Mexico for the past eight years.
Dreams have been a huge part of my art and my inspiration since I can remember, and I’m very excited about a way of working with dreams I practice which is called Dreamtending. This has inspired and ignited my creative imagination and is an endless source of enrichment for me. The practice of Dream Tending involves going back into the dream using active imagination, resulting in the experience of something akin to a shamanic journey. Together with another person we embark on a deep dive of curiosity and discovery, creating relationships with the dream figures as teachers and guides. We uncover fields of richness which spark creativity and imagination, while opening the doorway to the mystery in our waking lives. Tending dreams lit by the fire of presence, curiosity and imagination— is a magical way of uncovering our own creativity, soul voice, and the vast realm of possibilities always available to us.
Beyond dream interpretation, DreamTending is a way of working with dream which opens our senses to the multidimensional quality that is present in our lives—always—and wakes us up to our deepest selves, our connection to the world around us, and the gifts we have to share.

About the ArtistYour Tour Guide
Karla Refoxo
I am an eclectic mix of artist, jewelry designer, Oracle deck creator, Plant Spirit Medicine healer, and Dreamtender. The one thing these all have in common is my passion for bringing the mystery into view and sharing it with others in the hopes that they can experience it—in their own way— as well.
My healing and dream work give continuously to my art and visa versa. It makes for a never ending journey of discovery in which the liminal world weaves its way through my life in the form of visual art which strives to embody my experience in a living way. Plants and dreams are powerful teachers in showing me the way.
